Three channel audio installations.
“Any Way the Wind Blows” was an installation and recording project realised during a two-week residency around the village of Nodar in Portugal.
Through the use of amplified steel wires strung between trees, and self-made piezo microphones and multi-speaker systems driven by portable amplifiers I amplified the sound of wind blowing, vibrating the branches and leaves of trees, bushes, grass; and re-introduced these sounds in the form of a sonic mirror back into the environment.
On a conceptual level these installations address the notion of art's place as something existing in the eye of the beholder: as in the old saying, “if a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears it, did it fall?” Taking a cue from “walking artist” Richard Long, who documented his long walks with photograpny of sculptures he made with the environment he was walking through, I wanted to work with the environments around Nodar in a similar way through sound.
