Excerpt from the installation // 27.31 minutes // 31.4 mb This group exhibition features a variety of audio works composed of sounds derived from "silent" spaces (i.e. the hiss of a blank tape, the hum of an empty room, intricate artifacts, occasional crackles). The sound recordings and compositions are presented together throughout the galleries of the Contemporary Artists Center: darkened spaces with only minimal light for navigation purposes. Sound isolation between the pieces is not the intent of the show, consequently an entire environment of sound is created. Bleed between the sounds can encourage a conversation amongst the different elements as one walks through the space. If the listener were to focus on one sound source, the other pieces in the space, constructed of "background noise" (the natural hum of time passing, crackles, hisses, pops) can also provide/become background noise for eachother. "Unsilently" is an experiment, an accident, a chance for 'silence' to be unsilent, a place to listen. Featured Artists |
